Wow what an eventful past few months! I went to a Bachelorette Party at Disney, vacationed in Ireland, and shot tons of amazing weddings and portraits around the holiday season! It’s been a crazy whirlwind of activity but things are finally calming down a little and I’m able to get back to posting! Whitney and Jean are the couple that you probably remember from my Sailboat Proposal post. What a proposal! Their wedding was a little simpler, all about bringing two familes together into one, both having had children from previous marriages. Their ceremony was filled with love for their children and they made sure to include them in any way possible. They had a little lock and key ceremony where they each placed a lock on a family tree and threw the keys into the ocean, it was a really unique and a great way to have a small memento of your wedding to hang on your wall over the years. Whitney did most of the styling herself, sticking with a beachy-chic theme. Her family helped her get everything together and even made the cake! The wedding was full of personal touches that made it special and heartfelt. Congrats, you two lovebirds!

I am so excited to share this Elopement with you all! Danielle is a wedding planner in Key Largo and had contacted me after working on another local wedding together. She and her fiance, Brian, had decided to elope to Key West! They had been planning on having a traditional ceremony and reception with all their family and friends, but once the guest list kept growing and the details of wedding planning became more and more stressful, they realized that they were losing sight of the entire reason they were getting married in the first place: their love for one another. They decided that eloping was the perfect solution. I am SO happy they did! We had the most amazing afternoon together. Such tender moments were shared between them before they were joined in marriage. They were married in the middle of a beautiful tropical garden at the Mermaid and Alligator Guesthouse in Key West, Florida, with just me and the officiant present. Their ceremony was simple and intimate, just how they wanted it. Danielle was one of the most gorgeous brides I’ve ever photographed, her smile was radiant. Afterward we spent the afternoon traveling around Key West, where they have both vacationed several times prior to their special day. They rented a scooter which Danielle had never driven before, so obviously Brian had a lot of laughs trying to teach her. We visited a couple of local secret spots and got to see what makes Key West so unique. The idea was to keep it simple and focused on each other. Just Danielle, Brian, and an occasional photobomb from Key West’s famous free-range roosters and chickens. There was no bouquet, no cake cutting (or cake at all!), or fireworks; There was just love. The day finished off with a stroll down Duval St. to have an ice cream cone in lieu of a wedding cake. When I think about their wedding day, I think about how much laughter there was and how sweet and loving they are to each other. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed spending that warm summer afternoon with these two. I wish we could do it all over again! Here is what the bride had to say:

“From the beginning of our engagement we had considered eloping to be an option, but we feared that we’d be disappointing our family and closest friends. The thought of upsetting anyone weighed heavy on us so we considered many options while enjoying our long engagement. A year and a half later it dawned on us that our wedding was supposed to be about us, our love for each other and the commitment we wished to make. The amount of stress we were putting on ourselves to try to please everyone else wasn’t worth it! We excitedly made the decision together and though it seemed somewhat selfish, eloping felt right. Brian and I had visited Key West a handful of times and share such fond memories together that is was a no brainer for us to scoot down there for our elopement. We did little research and after one phone call we had our lodging, venue and officiant booked!

Our wedding day was a total dream! We slept in and ate breakfast together – Brian went down the road and enjoyed a beer and I sipped champagne while I had my hair and makeup done. We hung out, watched youtube videos and drank more champagne. We got dressed and everything felt so natural, we were completely comfortable as we experienced the day together with no pressure. We didn’t even feel a bit of jitters! The whole day was easy, stress free and an absolute blast! We had the best time cruisin’ the streets of Key West on our scooter and eating ice cream in lieu of wedding cake! I had feared that we would look back and regret not planning a large party surrounded by our family and friends, but we don’t regret a thing. We look back on our wedding day and smile because eloping in such simple style was so perfectly us.”

Erica and Ryan were my first international destination wedding. I had never been to the Bahamas before and had no idea what to expect, but I couldn’t have been more excited! Bimini is a tiny island and is the closest part of the Bahamas to Florida, being just a 15 minute plane ride away from Fort Lauderdale. After a short hop, skip, and a jump on a tiny airplane, I arrived in Bimini and started photographing their wedding weekend. Instead of doing a First Look with her husband-to-be, Erica chose to do one with her dad, such a cute moment. Her mother also passed down a gorgeous heirloom pearl necklace for her to wear down the aisle. The reception was at the Bimini Big Game Club (where everyone was also staying for the weekend) and the ceremony was located on a beautiful beach across the street on the other side of the Island, just a short walk (or golf cart ride) away.

From their Wedding Planner, Key Destination Events: “I’m a bit speechless on this one. Looking back on everything, all of our conversations and ideas, all of our research and planning, all of the time spent on organizing and crafting, this wedding was perfection. Ryan & Erica are Key Largo natives, and wanted to honor their heritage on their wedding day. The bride has a great history between the Bahamas and Florida Keys, so we set sail to Bimini and found the venue of their dreams, Bimini Big Game Club.
With a scalloped wedding dress to die for, ocean blue hues, intimate guest list, and conch-tribute menu – this day was everything they could have hoped for.”

In the days before their special day it had been raining almost non-stop, so the question on everyone’s mind was if it was going to continue or if it would finally clear up. Mother Nature must have liked them because it cleared up for one of the most beautiful days we could have asked for. The ocean in Bimini is so bright blue you can barely believe that it’s real, and the sunsets…well as you can see above, they’re incredible. Their day was bright and sunny, and once the sun started to set, we were graced with the most magnificent light show I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing at a wedding. The sky turned from soft, romantic pastels, to bright, vivid hues of tangerine and magenta. It was absolutely incredible with the waves crashing upon the shore. I’m so grateful I was chosen to photograph their beautiful journey into being man and wife. I also did a bridal session the morning after their big day, so stay tuned for more photos of their wedding weekend!

I know I’ve been slacking with my blog posts!! Don’t hold it against me. I promise I’ve just been too busy doing other lovely things than updating my blog. 😉 I’ve been spending my time going to the largest wedding photography conference in the states in Las Vegas with several other photographer gals, exploring the Keys on my new boat (yay!), and shooting tons of new and gorgeous sessions and weddings. This was a wedding I second shot for Endearing Studios at Coconut Palm Inn. These two were seriously GQ models or something, they were incredible! I don’t think we took a single bad photo of either one all day! Unfortunately they had a little sun-shower on their wedding day, but it cleared up just in time for the ceremony and we were still able to do everything outside (yay for good luck rain showers!)

This was a special wedding for me, having done a couple of sessions with Amy, Dustin, and Laila in the past (remember that adorable little girl who celebrated her first birthday with a pink cupcake smash?). In the other sessions, Laila had obviously been the star of the show.  This post gives her parents a chance to shine as well. I just love the colorful shirts and suspenders the guys wore, mixed with the simple but elegant cream dresses the bridesmaids wore that were complemented by their Bird of Paradise bouquet. The colors were so bright and fun! The day was filled with laughter, Dustin always being one to lighten the mood which allowed me to get some photos that still crack me up. The evening finished off with lighting chinese lanterns over the ocean and walking through an arch of sparklers for their grand exit. Congrats, you two! So happy I was a part of your day (finally! haha). I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed your wedding!
