Erica and Ryan were my first international destination wedding. I had never been to the Bahamas before and had no idea what to expect, but I couldn’t have been more excited! Bimini is a tiny island and is the closest part of the Bahamas to Florida, being just a 15 minute plane ride away from Fort Lauderdale. After a short hop, skip, and a jump on a tiny airplane, I arrived in Bimini and started photographing their wedding weekend. Instead of doing a First Look with her husband-to-be, Erica chose to do one with her dad, such a cute moment. Her mother also passed down a gorgeous heirloom pearl necklace for her to wear down the aisle. The reception was at the Bimini Big Game Club (where everyone was also staying for the weekend) and the ceremony was located on a beautiful beach across the street on the other side of the Island, just a short walk (or golf cart ride) away.
From their Wedding Planner, Key Destination Events: “I’m a bit speechless on this one. Looking back on everything, all of our conversations and ideas, all of our research and planning, all of the time spent on organizing and crafting, this wedding was perfection. Ryan & Erica are Key Largo natives, and wanted to honor their heritage on their wedding day. The bride has a great history between the Bahamas and Florida Keys, so we set sail to Bimini and found the venue of their dreams, Bimini Big Game Club.
With a scalloped wedding dress to die for, ocean blue hues, intimate guest list, and conch-tribute menu – this day was everything they could have hoped for.”
In the days before their special day it had been raining almost non-stop, so the question on everyone’s mind was if it was going to continue or if it would finally clear up. Mother Nature must have liked them because it cleared up for one of the most beautiful days we could have asked for. The ocean in Bimini is so bright blue you can barely believe that it’s real, and the sunsets…well as you can see above, they’re incredible. Their day was bright and sunny, and once the sun started to set, we were graced with the most magnificent light show I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing at a wedding. The sky turned from soft, romantic pastels, to bright, vivid hues of tangerine and magenta. It was absolutely incredible with the waves crashing upon the shore. I’m so grateful I was chosen to photograph their beautiful journey into being man and wife. I also did a bridal session the morning after their big day, so stay tuned for more photos of their wedding weekend!
A huge thanks to all the vendors who helped create this beautiful island wedding!
